Staff WriterTimes Herald-Record

PHOENICIA – The human voice takes center stage at The Phoenicia International Festival of the Voice. The festival is set in several venues around Phoenicia, from churches to fields. At each site, the event offers an opportunity to hear, learn, workshop and enjoy the many aspects of voice. At the same time it celebrates the region, inviting visitors to revel not only in the performances but also the countryside, the mountains and waterways.

The Festival “promotes the human voice as an instrument of healing, peace and artistic expression through presenting world class performances in Phoenicia and surrounding areas,” according to its website.  “From opera to gospel, world music to Broadway, the Festival celebrates the human voice in all its multi-faceted glory.”

The multi-day festival began Aug. 4 and continues through Aug. 7. Lectures, conversations, performances and master classes are on the schedule and include music, theater and more. This year’s theme is Celebrate Shakespeare and the British Isles.
